The English Language List is a discussion community for teachers of A-Level English Language, with particular reference to AQA Specification B. Many professional linguists have subscribed and kindly agreed to offer some input on aspects of subject knowledge and up-to-date research. The English Language List has been serving the English teaching community for six years and has around 900 members.
We exist to share:
teaching materials
methodology
information about events and conferences
secondary sources
investigation ideas
subject knowledge
We’re especially interested in ending world-wide weariness and providing focus for web based resources. We’ve all come across good sites but they’re often buried in dusty corners of unwieldy favourites folders. If we had an instant way of sharing our finds, life would get a whole lot easier.
How does it work? Whenever a subscriber sends a message to the list address, all the subscribers get a copy of it. So if you put out a query about some aspect of teaching Unit 1, within a couple of days you could be reading a host of useful replies from all over the country. There are also some members overseas. Of course, if the heat gets too much for you at any time, you can easily unsubscribe and you won’t receive any more messages from the list.
Your email address is not known to any of the other subscribers, unless you quote it in the body of the message. Replies only ever go to the list address.
As of 13th February 2007, there is a very small charge of £4.00 GBP for lifetime membership of The English Language List. This is to cover ongoing web hosting charges and fund future development. Payment entitles you to return at any time after you have unsubscribed, with no further payment. If you don't have the ability to pay, though, email me here and I'll see what I can do.
